19 Apr

Thought I’d check out the fuss about Dubai Fashion Week…turns out its organized by a Sindhi (Manoj Bhojwani) and co founded by good ol Marc Robinson.  Heck, even the logistics and operations teams are imported straight from India …sigh LFW revisited? Well, lets find out…

I got here, at the World Trade Center mighty early for lack of having anything much to do… so here are a few snapshots for a first look of sorts. I’m gonna keep posting pics here LIVE from the event, so stay updated!

Closet Confidential!

16 Apr

If you don’t have them already, grab these Wardrobe Must Haves to see you through Summer as well as Fall/ Winter 2011. These closet essentials can be dressed up or dressed down, accessorized and played with, to hit the ‘So hot right now’ spot, no matter what the season.

The Little red dress

Summer:

Nothing like painting the town red this summer, in that sweet summer shift dress. Dress it down in the sweltering heat with comfy brogues or wedges and bright chunky bracelets. Fuss free, minimal accessories work best in the hot summer so grab a small cross body bag (try hot pink, deep blue, or peach- orange to color block!) and you’re good to go!

Animal print wedges

Fall/ winter:

Give the same red shift dress a glam makeover with a nice pair of high heels (If you’re up for a little bit of fun, try fur lined booties on heels). Else, it’s the best time to flaunt your knee high leather boots.  Grunge it up a bit with ripped leggings. Throw on a chunky front open knit and secure it with a belt at your waist. Your little red dress just grew up!

Lace and Sheer
Summer: Pair a pale pink lace vest or a high neck sheer top with one of those pretty bows at the collar, with a flirty floral skirt and strappy flats. Top it off with a swell fedora hat for a little fun in the sun.

Floral skirt- River Island

Slouchy sandals

Fall/ winter: Toughen up your lace vest or sheer bow top with a pair of pleated trousers with a belt and a boyfriend blazer. Add glamour with a dark grey or black snake skin clutch and high heeled pumps to complete the look.

Croquet and eyelets:

Summer:

This boho chic style is a summer favorite- what with eyelets making waves on the runway and about the streets. Your croquet or eyelet top can be worn over a camisole and a linen skirt. Wear with a slim headband, hippie style and those ankle tie flats with tassels for a true boho chic statement.

Fall/winter: Wear your croquet with cropped jacket to twist the boho a bit. Wear it with a long skirt slit high, along with thigh high boots for a super chic winter look.

The skirt suit
Summer: Get a neutral colored suit which is adaptable to both seasons. Make sure you alter the fit according to your body type- You don’t want to look boxed in, do you? Choose a suit with a jacket that has a little feminine shoulder detailing.

In summer, wear a slinky camisole inside with a pair of those pointy kitten heels. I love the roll up sleeves trend for summer. Add a string of pearls to complete the look.

Fall /winter: The skirt suit can be worn with ripped leggings and boots. Layer your suit with a formal shirt, then a sleeveless vest over it with a slim belt clinched at the waist, and finally the jacket over the vest.

Summer:

The cheeky, cute polka dots remind me of a certain Ms Monroe. Pair up your polka dotted skirt with a plain camisole with some chunky rings and peep-toe sandals. Add a volume of long slim necklaces to balance the attention.

Fall winter:

Show off your polka dotted skirt with a cropped bomber jacket and a high neck plain blouse. Add those leg warmers and flats for a casual day out this autumn.

John Galliano Fired From his Own Label!

15 Apr

Not long after John Galliano was sacked as Creative Director from French fashion house Christian Dior, comes news that he has also been fired from his own label, ‘John Galliano’!

The estranged designer, fresh out of his LA rehab, finds himself ousted from his eponymous label founded in 1993. However, Christian Dior does own 91% stake in it and hence has the right to unceremoniously bid goodbye to Galliano.  According to reports, the company’s board declared that the British designer was ‘surplus to requirements.’

John Galliano

Galliano checked into an LA rehab soon after he was accused of anti-Semitic slurs and racist comments towards an Asian couple at a pub. He is due to stand trial on a charge of public insult at the Paris High Court. If found guilty, Galliano could face months in prison and a fine of 22,500 Euros.  Though he has denied all charges, a couple of video clips of his racist rants have been uploaded on Youtube as evidence for the public at large.

It is not clear yet, whether the John Galliano label will be sold off to a third party or continue to function with a different name.
