Nothing spices up a dull weeknight than a sumptuous barbeque dinner by the pool with a gorgeous backdrop of glittering city lights and the perfect breeze. Shades at The Address, Dubai Marina was just the perfect escape from the madding week with a Do-It Yourself BBQ spread that simply blew us away.
We started with an order of Cream of Tomato Soup, Grilled Tiger Prawns and Chicken Tikka to keep us busy while we grilled. We didn’t know how long it would take to barbeque steaks in the seemingly sleek and sophisticated grill set up on our table so thought we’d keep the hunger pangs at bay with these. The chicken tikka was hot and spicy- a tad more than we expected, but delicious all the same. The grilled tiger prawns were amazing and went perfectly with the wide selection of mustard sauce and ketchup.
As it turned out, our steaks- The sirloin and tender loin actually took no more than ten to fifteen minutes to grill, especially since we liked it medium rare. To keep us company, the fabulous ladies night offer gave us a complimentary mojito, which definitely worked to raise the spirits while we worked at the grill. Barbequing on our own was a great experience and we realized that the steaks were so much better – a lot more succulent when grilled after being doused generously in the barbeque sauce. The sides of fries and veggies also complimented the meal excellently.
To top it off, we dug into some very elaborate dessert – a chocolate and cherry concoction which was very rich and absolutely delish.
Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable Sunday night at Shades – full points for ambiance and food, although it is definitely on the pricier side, with the bill being approximately AED 900 for three persons including non- alcoholic drinks. Nevertheless, I’ll be going back for round two soon!
