First-Timers’ Guide to Music Festival-ing

August 4, 2014

So I’m here at the amazing Lollapalooza 2014, thanks to GAP who sent me and a friend all the way to Chicago for my my first ever music festival experience – it’s mad and absolutely rad here! The best part is that I had no idea what to expect so I’m totally blown away by the energy, music and some very eccentric people! So I put together this quick crash guide to music festival-ing for first timers, just as a heads-up for what to expect, avoid and look forward to:

1. Embrace your photobombers:
If you have a camera and are trying to take a picture of yourself, know that you WILL be photobombed. Don’t fight it. They can sense your annoyance and that makes them infinitely happy. Infact, get hold of them and invite them into your picture! Makes for some fun memories and sweet revenge, if they ever find themselves tagged as ‘photobomber’ in a photo on the internet.

2. Up your Hipster quotient:
Don’t even think about going to th festival in regular clothes – you’d feel terribly normal. Think feather headdresses , ewok backpacks and flower power. This dude here went a little overboard though, I think.

3. Beware of slogan T shirts:
They’re bold, they’re loud and they’re proud but they don’t always make a lot of sense. This one took the cake though because I went, “Huh?” in his face and then totally pretended to get it.
