Here’s the essential list of to-dos in 2014. Somehow they all begin with E- It’s a co-incidence, I promise.
I’ve always had the travel bug in me and even though I have managed to satiate that wander lust to a small extent, I just haven’t had the guts to take an entire month off and go backpacking to …I don’t know, Bhutan? Or perhaps a season in Italy… a la Eat Pray Love. Inspired and enthused, I have vowed to step out of the rat race (atleast for a bit) and do some serious traveling this year.
But then, for me it means travelling in style. I may be a hippy at heart but I can’t take the style blogger out of me- not for long. For example, I love backpacks for their comfort, but absolutely detest those hideous standard backpacks available at most travel labels. Luckily, I just came across this chic German brand MCM (Moderne Creation Munich) and it’s all I’ve been dreaming about… travelling with me from Vienna to Vietnam in all its chic-ness.
MCM is thinking on the same lines! Inspired by the romantic ‘Age of Travel’ and the onset of aeronautics, the brand pays a neo-couture tribute to the legendary pilot Amelia Earhart and the pioneering women of her era making ‘funky aviation pioneer’ this season. Pssst… some of MCM’s bags were spotted on Beyonce and Hiedi Klum too!
I’m definitely strapping one of these on for style!
What’s life without discovering new tastes, sights and sounds, people and places ? So this year I’ve decided to launch myself onto a path of self discovery- to learn a new language (Spanish language speakers, I am about to unleash my skills upon you) resume my guitar practice (I must expand my repertoire beyond those 3 godforsaken songs) and discover some new and off-beat brands to spice up my wardrobe.
While the first two unfortunately depend on my will power, the third is easier, as it involves shopping. I’m going to start with this quirky local brand I recently found -Arcadian Apparel, new fashion concept in the UAE which supports local artists and prints wearable art on t-shirts. Now since wearable art is touted to be one of the biggest fashion trends of 2014, I think this is bang on relevant, fun and quirky.
I’m loving the writing on my T shirt that says ‘Cool’ in Arabic… I’ll say it’s cool indeed!
After my recent shock and subsequent despair over the two full strands of grey hair on my head, I’ve started to take my age very seriously. Yes I’ve just entered the third decade of my life and no, it does not look pretty. I hate the fact that I can be told that I’m “too old” to do certain things and I have to suddenly start thinking about “age appropriate” clothing. Bleh. But even more pressing is the fact that I have to actually start taking care of hair and skin- my next resolution.
To this effect, I’ve charted out a simple system. Hydrating facial every two weeks, A new diet with more vitamin E intake and regular hot oil head massage for my hair. I’ve switched from random products to this amazing family-owned, international haircare Italian brand, Davines for a fool-proof hair rescue plan. I tried some of their products once last year and have been absolutely addicted ever since.
I particularly loved the Davines Oil for it’s anti-fizz effect (so useful in Dubai), extraordinary shine and softness. I also loved (and currently using) the Davines Naturaltech Energising shampoo and gel for it’s instant uplift and nourishing essential oils. The effect is tremendous and instantly visible.
This one’s a keeper.
This year is going to be all about the glam. I’ve always complained that I’m not very good with make-up and part of it was because (at the risk of sounding obnoxious) I’ve never really had to. My skin has almost always behaved itself and there was never any need to go beyond the eyeliner and lipgloss routine. But now, the dark circles have started to appear and the skintone has changed to show those 14 hour workdays on my face.
On my part, I’ve resolved to learn the tricks and tips to master make-up and fool age into believing I’m 25 again. No, 24.
I’ve tried and loved most products from Benefit Cosmetics and this year, I plan to stock up and how. I recently tried the Rockateur blush and I must say, nothing had made me blush more! Absolutely love the product. Oh and another must- have is the mascara called, ‘They’re real’ –unbelievable volume.
This year, I vow to experiment with different forms of expression- writing is my usual vent for creative experiment but I’d also love to take up photography. No, I’m not sure if I’ll be good at it (seeing how I flunked my photojournalism class back in college), but I want to make attempt atleast.
I must say, this new photography bug bit me while I used the incredible Fujifilm X100S for one of my projects recently.
Going forward, I hope to be able to take this newfound passion and turn it into something tangible and productive. So here’s to new beginnings and a very happy new year…Salud!
