Making brunch plans for the weekend? I was over at Claw Bbq, Souk Al Bahar last week – here’s why you should definitely give it a shot:
Even though I actually wanted to try out their crab, I opted for the set brunch menu (We chose ‘Varsity’ for it’s choice of spirits and one item from the appetizer selection, one from the main course and one from dessert). But I did find myself eying the massive cocktails at the next table with a giant cocktail glass- well there’s always a next time.
The ambiance was unmistakably Texan, with paraphernalia from a typical deep south eat-house, replete with brick walls and metallic frames. The staff was friendly: they come right up and explained the brunch options, which are arranged according to how much you want to drink.
Claw BBQ is quite generously offered complementary Mojitos for brunchers along with some nachos and fresh shrimp cocktail to start off with. After “cooling off” we got down to ordering our selection from the available brunch menu. A talented live band duo occupied the front corner, doling out some nice acoustic, twangy numbers. They fit in well to the fun brunch atmosphere.
So on to the food: Giant Onion rings and buffalo wings were our starters, but the buffalo wings were my personal pièce de résistance. The blue cheese sauce here is simply un-missable! My companion opted for the shredded barbeque sandwich, which came in an open bun and more fries. The food was heavy but in a good way, my burger was top notch with some crunchy savory bacon mixed in with the delicious jalapeno.
Dessert was purposely chosen to be light as we were quite full with our glasses of wine and meaty savory main course. Key lime pie and the good old Chocolate brownie hit the spot – for a perfect end to the meal. At AED 590 for two persons, it can’t be called a budget brunch but I’d say it’s definitely not to be missed.
PS: Do have a go at the mechanical bull, rodeo style! I promise it’s the most fun you would’ve had in a while.
