It’s springtime already, which means it’s all about quality pool-time, rejuvenating and shedding that holiday weight in style. But then spring also brings with it, its own share of woes. For example, the transitioning weather is tricky for me as my skin throws tantrums with the growing humidity in the air. I decided to try the much talked-about product from L’Occitane and also picked up the new seasonal launches such as the brightening serum – afterall, who can resist a beauty loot?
More humidity also means fizzy hair for some of us- a follicular catastrophe, no less. I walk into Purity Med Spa to try Alterna Haircare’s anti-frizz treatment. Challenge: Tame the mane!
I’m no fan of the gym, I’ve been caught sleeping in yoga class and I can’t be found running, unless I’ve been chased by something. But unfortunately, my hips never learnt to lie so whenever I feel the need to get back in shape, it’s salsa that always comes to my rescue. I stepped into James &Alex’s Dance studio last week for a drop-in salsa lesson, to get off my lazy butt and hopefully show off some sexy moves in the bargain.
L’Occitane Almond body cream, brightening serum and Eye mask:
‘Anti-aging’ is not a bad word. It’s certainly not something the new 30s or even late 20s should be shying away from. I’ve been using this anti-aging almond body cream for a week now and all I can say is thank god I found this sooner than later! I mean, why wait till the skin starts to loosen? Afterall, prevention is better than cure, as they say.
This buttery soft concoction is feather light and gives a boost of moisture that few other creams can match. It visibly firms, tightens and hydrates the skin and I found it to strike the right balance without making the skin greasy. Highly recommended, not only for mature skin, but even for women in their later 20s and early 30s.
The brightening serum is a new product- nicely packaged and comes with a dropper applicator, for accurate aim. I loved how it instantly evened out my skin tone and brightened the contours of my face. Don’t expect a drastic effect though- it’s very subtle but definitely effective. I wear it under my moisturizer for that ‘secret’ glow during the day.
Alterna Haircare treatment at Purity Med Spa:
I recently tried the anti-frizz treatment from professional haircare range, Alterna at Purity Med Spa. As part of my survival kit for the approaching warm (and sticky) season, I thought I’d give myself some TLC for the tresses.
It was my first time at Purity but I instantly felt at home, thanks to all the pampering from the staff. The treatment itself was quite a hit, as the Intense Moisture Masque from the Alterna Bamboo range worked it’s magic. After a quick hairwash and application, my hair was set to dry in an enormous headgear. Some green tea and a few gossip magazines later, I was all set for a wash and blow-dry. I didn’t see the results immediately, but to my delight, my hair began to look and feel like a million bucks!
Zero frizz, very soft and super glossy, shiny hair for days!
James &Alex’s Studio: Salsa!
I’ve grown up on a generous diet of dance movies and I’ve always loved latin American ballroom dancing for the oomph factor and energy. Although I’ve been to a few salsa classes back home in Mumbai, this was my first salsa experience in Dubai, at James & Alex’s Dance Studios.
I dropped in for class after work (drop in classes for beginners and intermediate level students are on Mondays and Wednesdays, 8-9pm) and was pleasantly surprised to find a good number of people and a pretty lively, friendly atmosphere. The studios were well equipped and had a massive floor (4000 sq ft) for dancing.
I loved that I was able to grasp a lot in that hour, thanks to the instructor who was very patient with the beginners and paid attention to detail. The class was all about keeping up with the moves, sharing a sheepish smile every once in a while and exploring fun dance moves together- I loved the experience and would definitely recommend dropping in with a friend or even alone (no partner required for class). As for me, I’m looking forward to trying out tango or even hip-hop next… I’ll never know what I love, if I haven’t tried it yet, right?
