The Twiggy Effect

23 Aug

Who’s Twiggy? Well, only the biggest fashion cult icon of the 60’s! This pixie sized English model, actor and singer sent the fashion world in a tizzy with her signature style: A- line dress, tomboy-meets-schoolgirl dressing and dark, spider lashes.

She recalled, “Back then I was layering three pairs of false eyelashes over my own and would paint extra ‘twigs’ on my skin underneath.” Known as the face of ’66 at age 16, she launched her own clothing line, ‘Twiggy Dresses.

This fall, her tomboyish, child- woman look is wildly popular on the runway. This fuss free 60s chic look scores high on the popularity charts for its comfort factor- clean cut and no frills! Twiggy’s look in her straight white minidress and Mary Jane flats (above right ) has been one of the most memorable  signature looks in fashion history.

DKNY Fall Winter 2011

Androgynous, straight up and fuss free these ‘mod dresses’ (derived from the modernist movement that originated in London during the early to mid 60s) are all the rage this fall with designers like Yves Saint Laurent, Prada, CK, Miu Miu and DKNY showing symptoms of the Twiggy Effect. Your more affordable options are Zara, H&M and Gap, all of which have a sweet variety of these twiggy style 60s dresses for the coming season.
