Lucky for gentlemen, it’s all laid out for them in the rules: Black/ grey / navy Tux or dinner jacket, bow tie and boutonnière. The ladies, however, have a veritable dilemma in ‘What to wear’! The only rules are: No trousers or above the knee dresses. The black tie dress code implies the ladies wear glamorous full length gowns, knee length cocktail dresses and bring on the bling!
The Little Black Dress: (Make sure it’s not too little)
If you’ve decided to go the good old all black way, be sure to make it exciting by playing with different textures and tones of black. It needn’t be as boring as you’d image.
The statement gown:
Very glamorous and very easy to go wrong with! Make sure you pick a gown that compliments your frame and visage. Petite girls run the risk in drowning inside voluminous gowns so wear something neater and slicker- a bodycon dress, perhaps.
If you’re a little bottom heavy and tall, the floor length gown is perfect for you. Pick something in a dark hue (black, violet, burgundy are hot favorites this season) and make sure u draw attention away from the bottom with a sexy neckline and jewelry.
Accessories are oh so important for the black tie event so choose correctly. This is a formal dress code so ditch the neon makeup and saturated colors. It’s OK to match your shoes and clutch sometimes :- )
Accessorizing a simple dress for the big night:
Before crying out loud that you have nothing to wear and rushing to the store, pause to check your closet once. If you have a simple, knee length or floor length gown, you can transform it into a red carpet worthy outfit by simply accessorizing! (Okay so you might have to rush to the store to buy some accessories but that’ll be way easy on your pocket than a brand new dress)
Have a great red carpet moment!
